People’s Petition Parliamentary Discussion [24.11.11]
It was a wet Thursday afternoon, there had been a change in timetable just the day before, and yet there was still a packed public gallery with 60+ of us there to view proceedings. The outcomes being that:

  • We’ve got smoke-free outdoor area laws on the agenda again.
  • We’ve got on public record cross party agreement on the facts and need for action.
  • MPs present were visibly impressed by the strong public presence.

Now we need to turn their words into action.

There are many issues where a change in policy or practice will move us closer to our goal of defeating cancer, and where your action can make a real difference:

Weight gain linked to risk of aggressive cancer – study | smh.com.au | 19.1.12

The risk of death from prostate cancer nearly doubles in men who have put on 20 kilograms or more in their adult life, new Australian research has found. The paper, published in the International Journal of Cancer, shows an increase in body weight during a man’s adult life is associated with an increased risk of suffering an aggressive form of prostate cancer and of dying from prostate cancer.
