In August 2013 we released our tobacco retailer audit findings, and called on the NSW Minister for Health to convene a taskforce to explore, evaluate and advise on policies for tobacco retail reform that will most effectively accelerate declines in smoking prevalence. In October 2013 the Minister outlined that the taskforce would be established, and it’s due to report soon – we’re waiting to see how this plays out…
At the same time, the legislation that governs the sale of tobacco has been reviewed. Along with others, we made a submission calling for more action to be taken on the wide availability of tobacco. That report is due in Parliament by November. To hear how it goes, and keep up to date on our next steps, sign up here.Take Action
